« Accessing a Remote Database in ASP.NET (... | Main | VS 2008 SP1 Fixes Missing .resources Iss... »

I finally gave in (for better or for worse) and signed up on facebook.com this past weekend.  I've always had an aversion to such social networking sites for one reason or another.  In fact, facebook.com and myspace.com have long been blocked on my firewall at home until just recently.  I may go back to block myspace.com, however; pretty much everything I've seen on it has been annoying, sleasy, trashy, and not worth my time - basically stuff I didn't want on my computer in the first place.

Now I don't know all the specifics about facebook.com, but I've had a great time on it in the past few days reestablishing connections with friends from my youth in New Mexico.  I've made contact with some people that I've not been able to find until now, which is very exciting.

I realize that I'm a late bloomer of a sort with regards to social networking, but such is the way of things I suppose.  Among other things, I've simply not had time for it.  I still don't have time for it, but I may make some for it, we'll see how it goes.

If you on facebook.com and you know me, drop me a line!

I know exactly what you mean! I've been avoiding MySpace and Facebook like the plague! Basically, I feel like I'm done making time for things. That is the same reason I refuse to watch some TV shows -- the last thing I need is something else to be "addicted" to.

Having said that I am starting to feel like I am missing out on emerging Internet culture. My wife recently created her Facebook account and is getting back in contact with all kinds of people we thought we would never hear from again and I started to understand the appeal. Usually when I am working I feel isolated and alone. Never mind MSN messenger chiming at me constantly -- that's work stuff and it is usually associated with a measure of pain (in the form of someone wanting me to do something for them).

As for me, I'm still holding strong to the 'no facebook' policy. No promises on how much longer I will last so I will probably see you there eventually.

I want to join an anti-social network where even I can't access my profile. :)

I was a relative latecomer to the party as well. I use facebook and LinkedIn as ways to re-connect with people and keep in touch with them (both business and personal contacts). Like you, I was able to get in touch with a lot of people that I went to high school and college with. I'm not a facebook crazy that is on it all day or anything, but it's another tool. While I don't have a myspace account, my assessment of it is basically the same as yours, trashy.

And I still don't really get twitter. But maybe that's just me. (I do have a twitter account that I update infrequently... maybe I don't see the value since I don't have many personal contacts there to follow like with facebook).
